I offer quantum biofeedback and coaching services to people who are interested in making lasting changes in their wellness. I am passionate about helping people to understand that they are powerful and that they can heal, on all levels. We approach the journey to wellness together in a wholistic fashion, with the understanding that all is connected. The experience of our lives can often seem out of our direct control. Events often seem to happen to us, rather than being driven by us. When we live from this place we become disempowered and can feel as though we have no say in our lives. We may do things because others expect it of us, or simply because that is how we always believed it should be done. After all, that is how everyone else does it, isn't it? Even our health seems beyond our control. Other than exercising and eating well, many people believe that they are left to chance, or family genetics to determine whether they will be healthy. Well, this is not the only way life can be. What would you imagine for yourself, if there were absolutely no limitation? What would your personal life, family, career and health look like? What would it feel like? If it is different than the life you are currently living, I can help. I function as a catalyst for you to transform your life. How is that possible? Well, first you need to be willing to believe that it is, just a bit. And then, be willing to step just a tiny bit out of your comfort zone. The thing about the comfort zone is that when we are in it, we are not growing. Without growth, there can be no change, and while change is not a favourite of most people, it is the process through which we must be willing to go if we want to improve our lives and our health. My role, as a healer and coach, is first, to create the safe space for my clients to relax, release stress and access the deep parts of themselves in need of healing, and second to offer new perspectives and interpretations upon which we build a new paradigm for the healing process. This is done through Quantum Biofeedback consultations, coaching sessions and an intuitive counselling approach. With these tools we identify things such as, what is stressing you, your limiting beliefs, negative thought patterns, blocked emotions, stuck trauma and physical distress and transform them into relaxation, empowering beliefs and thoughts, wellness, awareness and any other wonderful result that you desire for yourself!
Summer De-Stress: Stress & Health
We hear it all the time...." I'm so stressed "...but what is stress? In the West, stress is often seen as a loss of emotional control. In the Eastern philosophies stress is defined as the absence of inner peace. There are also physiological and psychological definitions of stress. Holistic Medicine incorporates all of the aspects in the following definition: Stress is the inability to cope with a perceived (real or imagined) threat to one's mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being, which results in a series of physiological responses and adaptations (Chopra, 2000; Dosey, 2004). Note the word 'perceived'. How each individual perceives something is unique, and what may be stressful for some may be fun and exciting for others. Among other things, our past experiences will influence our perceptions.
The thing about stress is that we were not designed to be constantly challenged by it. The stress response in the body results in preparation to 'Fight or Flee'. When stress persists we are constantly on high alert. The heart rate increases, breathing rates increase, blood sugar is elevated, and only systems required for immediate survival are operating. So, things like digestion and immune function are overlooked in favour of feeding muscles so we have the strength to run or fight. It is the longterm stress that the American Medical Association reports is at the root of up to 90% of all illness.
From this brief description, can you see that aliments like diabetes, immune dysfunction and digestive disorders can arise when we are under excessive and persistent stress? The body simply does not have the opportunity to rejuvenate itself.
Certainly, some level of stress is healthy and leads to peak performance. In order to stay in this category, stress management may be necessary. There are many simple things that we can do to keep stress at healthy levels. Taking a walk in nature will bring you back to a place of being grounded and connected to the Earth, away from technology and persistent demands. Exercise will strengthen the body and assist in the removal of stress hormones. Meditation or quiet contemplation offers your mind a chance to slow down and let go of worries and concerns. Meditation will also open the space for inner exploration. Ultimately, the things we experience while in meditation may be so profound that it shifts our perception of our situation, and thus alters how easily we are stressed in the first place.
One of the simplest ways to relax is by bringing your conscious awareness to your breath. By just focusing on what it feels like to breathe - the air moving into and out of our nostrils, the muscles and ribs expanding and the release that comes with exhalation - we can turn off the stress response and turn on the relaxation response. When in a state of relaxation the body begins to repair and rejuvenate.
Biofeedback is intended for stress management and reduction. By identifying what types of things are stressing the body and the mind we then focus the session to release the relevant stressors and allow the body to begin to heal itself. Stressors are the things the body is attempting to adapt to and may include a wide variety of things, such as: emotions, thoughts, toxins, infection, allergies, nutrition and more.
Next month I will explore how our beliefs impact our perception of stress.
